Funny Friday – Blackadder – Edmund’s finest hour

One of Britain’s most popular and classic comedy shows was the series Blackadder, starring Rowan Atkinson. In every season another dynasty of the Blackadder family is highlighted, starting with the year 1485 at the end of the British Middle Ages, then turning to  England during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I (1558–1603), the third season is set in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, a period known as the Regency. In the series, Edmund Blackadder is the butler to the Prince Regent, the Prince of Wales (played by Hugh Laurie as a complete pedantic idiot). The fourth series is set in 1917, in the trenches of the First World War. The character of Blackadder is sometimes successful, but most often he is not, and some scenes have become famous on their own, like the one about the first English Dictionary written by Dr. Samuel Johnson.
